Vintage Engagement Rings For Beauty And Style

August 20, 2009

Typically anything that is labeled vintage comes from the not too distant past. With regardless to jewelry this usually includes the last century, although some things that are vintage can also be antique. Some vintage is more retro, dating back even to as recent as the 1970s.

Most of the engagement rings from these time periods had very distinctive qualities that uniquely categorize the rings as being vintage. Typically the rings included both yellow and white gold combinations on the bands, however platinum was and is also used in creating some very unique settings and bands.

The bands in these slightly older styles of engagement rings tend to be different from modern band styles. The shank or back part of the band is often very small and round while the front is flatter, raised and wider. On many of the rings in vintage collection the band is often yellow gold and the settings or mounts in white gold. Not only does this add detail but it also collects light and focuses it in on the diamonds.

Rather than completely all small diamonds or one large diamond, vintage rings tend to use more medium to smaller sized diamonds to create the sparkle and shine. Other precious and semi-precious stones are common in settings for these types of engagement rings.

Although a more antique cut, cushion cut diamonds are still often found in vintage engagement rings. This cut is very soft in overall appearance and tends to be seen as a central diamond or as a medium to larger sized solitaire. Several cushion cut diamond rings also are interlocking or curved bands and present a beautiful and original looking ring set.

Originally known as candlelight diamonds, cushion cut diamonds were in highest demand at the turn of the century. The softer facets really reflected light from candles, hence the common name for the cut. Almost all cushion cut diamonds are an oval to soft rectangular shape but there is lots of variation.

Cushion cut diamonds and the reproductions of the vintage style of engagement rings tend to use the same open facet styles. This means that the diamonds stay true to their historic cut, softly and romantically reflecting gentle light. To add more focus on these types of diamonds small pave diamonds are often set close to the larger central diamond.

Looking through estate sales or selecting jewelers that offer replicas of vintage engagement rings may provide you with some options you hadn’t previously considered. The detail in these rings really makes them unique and different from modern engagement rings.

Choosing The Wedding Date

August 13, 2009

When it comes to setting the date for your wedding there really is no set of rules to live by. It is your wedding and you can choose whatever date you like. However there are some basic suggestions I can give you. One – Take your time when choosing the date, consider your guests feelings and needs when finalizing your date. Two – Choose your date and stick to it, don’t change the date once people are settled on attending your wedding on another date. If you want more guidance then those two suggestions keep reading for some simple methods to make choosing the date for your wedding a little simpler.

I know it seems a little obvious but sometimes people pick wedding dates and then realize that it would not be a great idea to get married on your brother’s girlfriends birthday or the weekend of your cousins graduation and then they have to start all over again and hopefully the second time around they spend more time thinking about any other events happening in that time or conflicts for that day or weekend. So how do you avoid this from happening to you? How do you set the wedding date? It is true that picking the date can be different for everyone; here are some suggestions to get the ball rolling.

If you have no wedding date in mind at all you might want to start by choosing what season you want to be married in. Once you have chosen the season you can choose the month and the year. Once this is accomplished you will be able to see if there are any conflicts within that month to avoid and you can choose your wedding date.

Now that your wedding date is selected or close to being selected you are going to want to make other decisions. You need to decide where you want the ceremony and the reception to be held. You may also want to think about hiring other wedding vendors such as a baker, a florist, a wedding planner and a DJ. Their availability might affect the wedding dates you can choose.

Choosing a wedding date on a venue or vendor’s availability is common. Many brides want to get married at a certain location or have a family bakery that they use for every wedding. If you fall into this category of brides you will need to make sure that whatever venues and vendors you are using are available on your wedding day, you may have to choose or change the wedding date to get a vendor, so do this soon.

If you really must get married in a certain location you could be adding a year or more onto your engagement. Worse you may have to choose between a longer than anticipated engagement or a shorter than you can deal with. Sometimes when you are on a waiting list to be married at a particular place and you are booked a ways in the future, say 2 – 4 years away they may also call you to see if you want to move up the ceremony if they have any cancellations. If you do decide to set the date based upon location and it is this popular you may want to decide now whether or not you would be okay with moving the ceremony up in order to get married sooner rather than later.

Or you could choose your wedding date based upon traditions, family or other. Setting the date may become simple if you are particularly close to someone like a grandmother and you want to get married on the day she was. Perhaps all the women in your family get married in June, and so all you need to do is narrow it down by date. Whether or not these types of traditions exist in the bride or groom’s family is only something you can know and only you can decide if you are going to follow them.

It really does not matter if you use a method I mentioned here or one of your own. Just remember that this is your day and the choices you make, including the day you get married on, should be yours and should make you happy. Don’t let others influence you or change your mind to the point of unhappiness.
