Importance of Wedding Cakes

January 24, 2010

A Wedding is one of the most memorable events in an individual’s life. A lot of planning goes into managing an event like a wedding. These days, you have a lot of people asking the help of a wedding planner. A wedding planer helps in planning and execution of the entire event as you wish. The planner looks into the venue arrangements, food arrangements, wedding cake, bride’s dress, wedding invitations and so many things that are part of a wedding. Wedding cake is an important part of the ceremony. It is center of attraction for the entire guest list invited to wish the couple who is getting married. A couple always tries to make the cake a central piece in their wedding ceremony. Hence, it is specially designed taking into consideration the views of the couple.

Wedding cake is an old tradition. The roots of this tradition are found in Roman history. The cake was used in olden times to bless the bride with fertility and successful married life. In those days, the child mortality rate was high due to various illnesses. Therefore, the women folk used to crumble the cake on brides head. The cakes used in those times were salty which were later changed to sweet one. These cakes were small and came in cup sizes. Later, there were modifications and large cakes were used in wedding. The traditions changed from Roman to English and they were changed by the French. They introduced new flavors and styles of decorations.

These wedding cakes play a significant role in the wedding. These cakes come in various shapes, sizes, and colors. Many couples try to match the wedding cake with the flower arrangements, brides white dress or favorite flavor of the couple. The cake is designed after a detailed discussion with the bride as she wants it to be special for the most happening event of her life. The cake is a symbol of couple’s love, trust and commitment. Therefore cutting the cake and feeding it to each other is an important ceremony. This symbolizes that the couple will give each other everything like care, comfort and company through out their lives. This cake is served to all the guests who attend the wedding and the couple shares their joy with them.

The wedding cake is multi layered. Decorations on the cake are interesting and should go along with the theme of the wedding. The decorations are amusing and made in such a fashion that all the dreams of your wedding should be incorporated in the cake. A guest should be able to get the theme of your wedding just by looking at the cake. These decorations can be elegant and colorful on the choice of the couple. There is an example where a bride made a cake which had a cricket field because of groom’s love and passion for the game. Heart shaped cakes are all time favorite as they show couple’s love. White cake symbolize purity and to share your happiness with the guest who come to bless the couple.

Make Your Wedding Invitations Right With These Easy Tips

January 21, 2010

Whenever someone is getting married, having an entire list of the guests is one of the most critical things  This includes the preparation for the wedding invitations. It should have and should show your earnest desire to invite those you want to see on your big wedding day.

The wedding invitation’s concept is on the idea that they really part of the wedding.

Here are some great tips and ideas for creating your invitation for your wedding.

1. Some soon to be couple does not know this very important fact but the main reason for making and circulating out your wedding invitations is to at least have an estimate on the list of guests you are going to invite. With this, it is smart for you to place a reply note along with the invitation. This can be in a form of a card or you can provide a name and number where they can easily notify their attendance.

2. If you plan to have a small wedding function, it is best to have the invitations personalized. This can also prevent the so called uninvited guests from coming. One more thing, purchasing few quantities of invitations are more expensive and require the minimum amount of orders. You can select a supplier that receives small orders. But if you really would not be ordering a lot, then, I suggest you make your own wedding invitation.

3. Specify on the wedding invitation what type of affair you will use. If possible, the invitation should directly reflect this. There are a lot of invitation designs and concepts out there for the theme you have. Oftentimes, weddings are formal events. However, there are occasions wherein the couples choose informal celebration.

4. The color in your wedding invitation should be chosen good. Yes this is common sense, but many does not follow this. The simple mixing of favorite colors are being done by soon to be couples. Weddings are usually colored white and will never go out of style. The important point is not to use one color but a good mixing of bright colors you can use. Bright colors can really ad up to the happy mood to anyone who sees it.

5. Be careful in the use of words for your invitation. Mindful use of words and putting them out correctly is very crucial in wedding invitations. These are the first-hand symbol of the great celebration that is about to take place. Any misapplied, abused, or unethical choice of words

6. A design that reflect your taste must be chosen. Invitations are the first thing that people will see even before the event itself. These usually come in the traditional different fancy designs of rectangular cards blended with laces and flowers. What you need to show them is the beauty of life that you and your partner had united to cherish everlastingly. Hence, it is strongly recommended to come up with a modern designs incorporated with true beauty.

More Ways To Have A Green Wedding

January 19, 2010

Some time ago, we gave some initial thoughts on how to have a “green wedding“. Here are some more ideas to try out so that your wedding can be as eco-friendly as possible.

1.  Go with a biodegradable fabric for your wedding gown. You don’t necessarily have to do with the paper wedding gown, although there are some designers were making some paper wedding gowns, but you can go with natural fibers instead of processed fibers in making your wedding gown. For instance, organic silk, cotton, or even bamboo are preferable choices for a green wedding gown.

2.  Make all of the decorations at a wedding out of paper products. Last time we only mention paper flowers, but there’s no reason that the centerpiece on every table at the recession could be man out of paper. Many weddings today wrap little favors in paper and close them up with the paper ribbon of some type. The runner leading from the back of the church to the front of the church could be made out of paper as well.

3.  Have your wedding and reception in the same place. This will save the environment by not having cars has to start up and waste all that energy and gas driving halfway across town to a different location for reception. Of course, if you’re looking to have your wedding in a church, and there’s other services that still have to be conducted in that church, this might not be an option. But if you’re not tied to having your wedding in a church, or if there are no other services in that church and they have a room large enough to hold all your guests, this might be something to think about.

4.  Instead of using electricity to light up your wedding ceremony, why not think of lighting up the room with soy candles? Sure, the cost of enough soy candles to light up the room might not save you any money, but soy burns naturally and doesn’t contaminate the environment, and the carbon footprint will have less of an impact than using electricity.

5.  Use recycled paper for your wedding invitations and wedding programs. These items have already proven that they can be broken down and used again. It also shows your guests how committed you are to trying to protect the environment.

3 Tips for Planning a Once-In-A Lifetime Wedding Day

January 6, 2010

A wedding day is a sacred day of exchanging vows and committing to a lifetime of devotion to each other. For these reasons it is very special. Because of all of the details involved, it is supposed to be planned at least months ahead with planning and consultations made for each of the important events within the ceremony and reception. The planning is there to ensure that the wedding details are prepared and that everything is perfect for your special day.

Of course there would not be any wedding guests if you did not send out your wedding invitations. In today’s modern times, many couples simply invite prospective guests through e-mail, text, and other electronic gadgets. However, the traditional and much preferred method is to send out elegantly detailed and crafted wedding invitations. An invitation reflects the days’ anticipated events as well as the design, mood, and colors for the wedding reception.

Inviting people through e-mail makes it hard to enjoy the thrill of making the time to design and prepare a beautifully crafted invitation letter. They can show the list of events that will take place and announce the people who will be a part of the ceremony. People who receive such an invitation are glad to commit to your wedding celebration. Your wedding invitations indirectly show your commitment to the marriage and to the joy that you share with your fiancé. It shows that you spared the time and effort to show your prospective guests that you want to make the wedding special so it will stand-out.

Therefore, the first tip in planning and ensuring the success of your wedding day is to send out custom-crafted and preferably personalized copies of your wedding invitations. Firstly, this would leave a good impression on your prospective guests and would be vital for making them want to commit and attend the celebration. Secondly, this would inform them of the nature of the event and to give them an idea of what to expect as far as the overall theme.

The second tip to ensuring total wedding success is to personalize the event. Improve upon the classic version of a wedding to make yours even more special and extravagant. Develop and utilize a theme and a wedding order of service that effectively showcases both of your personalities. Perhaps you could choose to adopt a gingerbread wedding theme if you are to be wed around the holidays and both enjoy candies and sweets. It would certainly be unique and customized to the time of year. It would also leave you guests in awe.

The third tip has much to do with hiring a wedding organizer or a planner. Leaving yourself the burden of planning is too much.  You should leave some space for yourself to enjoy the day and not have to worry about entertainment or other details. You should leave someone reliable in charge of maintaining the flow of the program so that transitioning from one activity to another is seamless. You do not necessarily have to hire a professional, but they would certainly ensure that the wedding order of service would get done the right way.

The Guide To Writing The Perfect Wedding Invitation

January 5, 2010

Writing wedding invitations can be a bit difficult to do if you have no idea where to start. This article brings to light the very basics of how to write the perfect wedding invitation.

Wedding invitations are essential to any weddings. If they weren’t, there may not be anyone showing up at your wedding. The purpose of a wedding invitation is to notify a friend or family member that you are planning on getting married on a specified date and that they are welcome to come and celebrate with you on that special day. So let’s dive right in and see what makes a perfect wedding invitation.

A wedding invitation is the first piece of work that you will be making for your wedding. Because of this, they need to make a lasting first impression. This impression must make them want to attend your wedding. There are many ways to make a lasting impression on your recipients with regards to wedding invitations, but I will only focus on one. The best way to leave a good impression on your guests is to correlate your wedding invitation with your wedding colors. If your wedding colors are pink and brown, the wedding invitations need to be pink and brown. The invitation paper itself can be white, but there needs to be pink in brown somewhere in the invitation, such as the words or designs. Because the wedding invitation will represent your wedding colors, it also sets the tone for your wedding.

The wording on the invitation is critical. It needs to be very fashionable and yet readable at the same time. A traditionally written invitation would look like the one below:

Mr. and Mrs. Kendall Blake Fowler

request the honor of your presence

at the marriage of their son

Kendall Blake Fowler

to

Tabitha Lynn Childers

two thousand and ten

at six o’clock in the evening

Northside Baptist Church

Wilmington, NC

Of course your wedding will be a bit different but you get the overall idea. This type of wording on the invitation assumes that the groom’s parents are married. If they weren’t then you would have to change it up a bit. Whether you include the father or mother is up to you. If you still want to include both parents when they are separated, then they would appear on two separate lines.

Another thing to point out is the line that reads “request the honor of your presence”. The implies that the wedding will be held at a church. If it weren’t held in a church, such as an outside wedding, then these words should be replaced by “request the pleasure of your company.”

If the reception is being held at the same location, then you could also include a line mentioning the reception and letting them know that they are invited. This next point is very important. Make sure you tell them to R.S.V.P so that you can get an idea as of how many people plan on attending the reception.

So I know this article doesn’t hit on any specific points of a wedding invitation, but it does point out the very basics that a wedding invitation should look like and by following these guidelines, you will be well on your way of making the perfect wedding invitation. Good luck!

Wedding Planning Stressing You Out?

September 3, 2009

Are you trying to plan a wedding and have no idea what you are doing? Do you feel like the task of wedding planning from start to finish is overwhelming?

Before you jump the gun and make decisions too quickly, first take some time to relax and celebrate your engagement. Planning a wedding should be an enjoyable time. The time before your wedding entails a lot of planning and possible stress. Take a deep breath and relax before you let any stress take hold of you.

Before you can make any solid decisions, you first need to make a rough guest list. How many people are you going to want to host at the ceremony and reception? You need a venue, food, and drinks to accommodate your guests. Estimate an approximate ballpark budget for your wedding expenses. Create a list of the big items like food, reception hall, ceremony, music, and flowers. Split up the budget by ranking each item on how important is to you. If you don’t care much about flowers but always wanted a reception outdoors, personalize your budget.

Find ways to save money on the smaller details, too. Make your own wedding invitations on your home computer. Crafting and stationary stores have pre-made templates on beautiful cardstock paper. There are matching RSVP templates and envelopes you can print on your home printer. Don’t pay professional fees when you can do the invitations yourself. Print out all the invites, addresses, and RSVP cards and have your friends help you stuff and send everything out.

Wedding Etiquette Today

August 24, 2009

Wedding etiquette is not what is used to be.  The more stringent rules of propriety, although still implemented by many, no longer have such full sway over the minds and hearts of brides and grooms [and family members] embroiled in furtive wedding planning activities. From the way wedding invitations are presented and worded to what’s considered acceptable at ceremony and reception, wedding etiquette truly has—perhaps of necessity—morphed with the times.

A few, notable examples on how wedding etiquette has been modified are as follows.

Personalized weddings. Couples today often opt to “throw the wedding etiquette book out the window” and strive for a more personalized wedding that fits their tastes and personalities.  Personal, hand-written wedding vows written by the bride and groom are an indication of this trend.

Sharing the costs. The cost of wedding expenses and today’s economy are having an effect on who pays for the wedding.  Sharing costs among the family members, even asking the groom’s parents to help, is a significant departure from what tradition and etiquette have long dictated through history.

Honor Attendants.  One of the most drastic deviations from traditional etiquette is when the bride has a special male friend stand in place of a maid of honor, as the bride’s “honor attendant.”  The groom might do the same with a female “honor attendant” rather than a best man.  These unusual variations on etiquette are respectively referred to as “Man of Honor” and “Best Woman.”

Wedding Attire Variations. For as long as anyone can remember, wedding etiquette has dictated the bride’s wedding gown be either white or ivory.  But today, more and more brides are feeling free to go with whichever color suits them and allows them to express themselves more freely—especially if cultural heritage is in play.  Even those who attend the wedding have more latitude in choice of color as far as wedding attire goes; black is no longer “out”, and all are free to dress in white, if so desired.

Color Variations. It used to be wedding etiquette “required” white to dominate: floral arrangements, bouquets, wedding attire, wedding invitations, reception decors, table linens, wedding cake, even gift wrapping, have all traditionally been white. Nowadays, sweeping color arrays are showing up more frequently.

If a person were to show up at a wedding today, that person might not recognize wedding etiquette if he or she were looking for its existence.  But it’s true: wedding etiquette has changed much.  Who knows how much it will change over the next fifty years?

How to Coordinate Your Save the Date Cards with Your Wedding Theme

August 20, 2009

One of the most important aspects to a wedding is the specific wedding theme that is being focused on. Many couples have utilized themes to set their event apart from others and to personalize their special day. Also, having a wedding theme can make it easier to plan the wedding, because adhering to a specific color combination or a specific style can take the guess work out of decisions involving such items as favors, décor and save the date cards as well.

A wedding theme can be just about anything, from a selection of colors that will be incorporated into specific items involved in the event, to an actual theme or idea, such as love or happiness. Sometimes, themes are things like settings, such as a beach, an island theme, or even a snowy forest scene. Themes can revolve around quotes from literature or from songs, and they can be whatever you would like them to be. The point of a wedding theme is to make sure that your wedding is unique, and to make various elements of the wedding harmoniously come together. Therefore, it is important for you to focus on your theme as early in the planning stages as possible, so that everything you do for your wedding can revolve around the chosen theme.

When it comes to planning your wedding, save the date cards are among the first aspects to be decided upon. Sending out save the date cards is an excellent way to make sure that everyone marks their calendar for your special day, as well as introducing your guests to the wedding theme.

In many cases, wedding invitations will not arrive at your guest’s door for a few months. For this reason, and also considering how busy people’s lives are these days, it may be necessary to send out save the date cards. Save the date cards will let your guests know to keep their schedules open for the date of your wedding, even if they do not know the specific details.

It is simple but extremely important for you to incorporate the theme of your wedding into your save the date cards. You might think that since you are sending it out so soon, you will not know enough about the theme to include it. However, there are ways to make sure that you do this easily and there are ways that you can continue to plan and have your Save the Date card end up matching your theme, no matter what it ends up being.

Your wedding theme should be one of the first things that you finalize after you have chosen a date, or perhaps before you have chosen a date for your wedding. Take the time that you need to plan out a general wedding theme, and do not worry about the details at this point in the process. Perhaps you already know that you are going to have a beach wedding, or that your wedding is going to take place in the fall. Perhaps you and your fiancé are both musicians, and so want to use music as a theme, or you are both into sports and want to use sports as your theme.

The most important thing to do at the outset of planning a wedding is to narrow down the possible themes into a short list of what wedding theme you will eventually decide upon. Then, take a look at the colors that you would like to use. It is important to choose the exact colors for your wedding theme as soon as possible, but you should have a general idea what you and your fiancé will decide upon. Would you like to use pastels, or darker colors, or perhaps a unique combination of colors? The sooner you can decide the general theme and the general color scheme, the sooner you will be able to create save the date cards that will match the colors you ultimately choose.

It is important to make an attempt to have fun during the entire wedding planning process, but once you know a little bit about the general theme that you are going to be using, or a general color idea, allow yourself to tap your creative juices and have a good time with designing your save the date cards. The more ideas that you have, the more detailed you can make the card. However, you can also make it very informal if you choose.

Even having a small idea of what you would like to use as a theme will allow you to create a save the date card that matches other elements of your wedding. The save the date card gives your guests’ their first impression of your event, so finalizing the wedding theme before sending out the save the date cards is very important. By making important decisions about the wedding theme before the save the date cards are sent out, the rest of your event can be coordinated with a good amount of time to spare.

Tips to Select Your Ideal Wedding Invitations

August 15, 2009

Finding a wedding invitation in your mailbox among the usual daily mails is always a treat to your eyes. Just the touch of the special feeling paper and its ceremonial appearance tends to put a smile on your face and there’s a feeling of excitement.

Since it’s not everyday that you are going to be getting married, a beautiful and elegant invitation that is also formal is what your marriage rightly deserves. Wherever you are marrying, whether in a church or a beachside resort, the occasion always deserves a fitting invitation that compliments the romance that will ensure in your life.

You could easily create the perfect invitation if you go through the guidelines here. There are various paper samples, type styles and different looks that you can give your invitation and you can always choose a combination that suits you best.

THE COLOR OF THE INK AND PAPER

To begin with, you should decide on the color of the ink and paper to be used for the invitation. The shade of the paper has a very important role in deciding what your invitation looks like. The colors for the paper could be bright white, soft white, traditional white or ecru, a grayish-pale yellow. As far as the ink goes, it’s most common to use black but alternatively, if the border of the invitation is metallic, gold and silver ink can be a great compliment to it.

APPEARANCE AND SIZE

You will now want to decide on the style and size of the invitation. The size and style range might differ depending on the color you have chose, so you can always choose your style and size first before choosing the color, if it matters more to you.

The folded style or the letter sheet is the most common format and it measures 5.5 x 7.75 inches when folded. Of course, there are other sizes as well and you can also get neat single cards. These can be designed with a panel or different styles of border designs, but if you use these options you will also have to consider on the wording and whether they will fit comfortably in the available space.

PRINTING

There are broadly two types of printing. ‘Engraving’ and ‘Thermography’ . Engraving provides flawless detail and a regal appearance but is also expensive. With this type of printing, the invitation will have raised print that is done through pressing a plate against the paper and the wordings can be felt at the back of the paper as well. Thermography is an alternative to engraving and is also less expensive. Instead of using plates to achieve the raised print, it uses special inks and powders. The only difference being the words can not be felt on the reverse of the invitation. Another option, which is least expensive, would be printing the invitation at home on your laser printer.

FONT STYLE AND SIZE

Font is the most confusing thing to decide as there are so many different ones to choose from. The ground rule here is to choose the font style according to the formality of the invitation. You can have dual size for the font, where the names of the bride and groom are bigger than the rest of the print. Remember to choose a simple font, so that the guest can read it easily.
